Digital Café was founded in 1991 by Dean Hyers and Mike Koenigs. They have since dissolved. In 1996, they made Chex Quest. They came up with the idea, and got permission from id Software to create it using a modified version of the open source Doom engine.
Since being dissolved, they have started a company memorial site here.
